THE MWANBANI PROJECT

A Life-Saving Center for Rural Tanzania

The new Mwanbani OBGYN Labor & Delivery Center is LiftLife’s flagship project—serving thousands of women in a remote region where safe childbirth has long been out of reach.

Why Mwanbani?

In many rural areas in Tanzania, mothers often deliver without dedicated maternity space, emergency obstetric care, reliable electricity, or neonatal support. Long travel distances and overcrowded facilities lead to preventable deaths for both mothers and newborns.

To change this, LiftLife Global Health is partnering with the Archdiocese of Mbeya to build a modern OBGYN Center and Maternity Waiting Home.
This collaboration ensures trusted local leadership, integration with village clinics, and long-term stewardship that will save lives for generations.

In the video below, Mr. Gregory Mitchell discusses the planned project for Mwanbani, highlighting its commitment to

compassionate care and its focus on meeting the diverse healthcare needs of the community. He emphasizes the range of medical services that will be offered, including emergency care, surgical procedures, maternal and child health programs, and initiatives for preventative medicine.

Mwanbani Women’s Health Project

A Lifesaving Maternal & Newborn Health Initiative

We are building the Mwanbani OBGYN Labor & Delivery Center and Maternity Waiting Home to safeguard mothers and newborns in rural Tanzania, where long travel distances and lack of skilled care lead to preventable deaths every day.

This project provides a complete, end-to-end maternal health solution — from prenatal care to safe delivery to newborn stabilization — all in one integrated campus.

🌿 What This Project Will Deliver

A Modern OBGYN Labor & Delivery Center

A fully designed facility offering:

  • Labor beds, delivery rooms, and a postnatal recovery wing

  • Emergency stabilization for obstetric complications

  • Infection-controlled, dignified spaces for mothers and babies

  • Immediate access to skilled midwives and clinicians

This replaces long, dangerous travel to distant hospitals — often hours away on rough roads.

A Safe Maternity Waiting Home (20 Private Beds)

Most rural mothers arrive too late for emergencies.
The waiting home provides:

  • A safe place for expectant mothers to stay near the hospital

  • On-site prenatal monitoring

  • Nutrition support and maternal education

  • A dignified environment for high-risk or remote-area pregnancies

This dramatically increases survival by ensuring mothers are close to skilled care when labor begins.

Essential Medical Equipment & Staffing

Our fundraising supports:

  • Delivery beds, suction units, fetal dopplers, newborn warmers

  • Ultrasound and basic imaging for pregnancy monitoring

  • A neonatal care area to treat premature or distressed newborns

  • A trained team of midwives, nurses, and clinical officers

  • Emergency readiness (hemorrhage, eclampsia, sepsis)

Quality care requires both equipment and skilled hands — this goal funds both.

Sustainability & Long-Term Impact

To ensure this project thrives for generations, the fundraising goal includes:

  • Solar power and backup systems

  • Clean water infrastructure and storage

  • Essential medicines and clinical supplies

  • Training programs and continuing education

  • Community outreach for prenatal care in remote villages

  • Digital health tools for tracking maternal outcomes

This is not just a building — it is a sustainable healthcare system.

Why It Matters

In rural regions like Mwanbani, women often labor at home or on the road with no access to skilled care. Many newborns never receive lifesaving interventions within the first minutes of life.

This project will:

  • Provide safe, skilled delivery services

  • Prevent deaths from hemorrhage, obstructed labor, and infection

  • Protect premature and low-birthweight infants

  • Serve thousands of mothers each year

  • Strengthen an entire region’s health capacity

When mothers survive, families survive. When newborns live, communities thrive.
